Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, more commonly just Hogwarts, is the boarding school attended by Harry Potter and many characters in the Harry Potter series to learn magic.
Hogwarts is a popular era for exploring older characters in the series, particularly the Marauders. It's also a popular setting for roleplays. See Hogwarts era.
Hogwarts is a popular AU setting for other fandoms; the characters of another fandom might attend or drop by Hogwarts in crossover or fusion fanfic, or they attended Hogwarts in the past as students. See Hogwarts AU.
Hogwarts Houses
Hogwarts has a house system with four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. A popular type of AU is sorting a character into a different house, such as sorting Harry into Slytherin instead of Gryffindor. Online personality tests have always been popular to see which house fans would be sorted into.[1] Some fans of the series identify with one of the houses, and don icons on places such as LiveJournal to show affiliation. Identifying with two houses is also prevalent, and fans have created combined house names such as Slytherdor (Slytherin and Gryffindor) and Ravenpuff or Huffleclaw (Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff).
