History Exchange is a fanfiction gift exchange for historical RPF, founded by sevenofspade/dhampyresa in 2015. It's tagline is An exchange for fic about dead people (not the zombie kind).
The exchange is administered via Archive of Our Own, using a nomination stage. For the 2015 exchange, historical characters were required to have died by 1990;[1] this was altered to 2000 for the 2016 exchange.[2] Nominations generally occur in May, sign ups in June and posting in July. Stories must be at least 500 words long.
2015
A total of 16 stories were written by 12 participants: aestivali, Alasse_Irena, Alexandria, Annariel, gemothy, Mercurie, Merfilly, Selden, Selena, sevenofspade, ShyWriter & Vaznetti. Ancient history was the most popular era, with seven stories; other periods include the 12th, 16th, 17th and 19th centuries. Some stories remained within the historical period, but there were also multiple modern, steampunk & sf/space AUs.
