HeyPeteKey is the Bandom poly pairing of Hey Chris/Chris Gutierrez, Pete Wentz, and Mikey Way. The ship isn't especially common but it is rich in history and drama.
Pete and Chris: Canon Background
Before Pete rose to prominence with Fall Out Boy, he was part of the band Arma Angelus, where HeyChris (his name is Chris Gutierrez, but we call him HeyChris because of the lyrics from Grenade Jumper) was also a member.
On February 28, 2006, Pete and Chris had a very public falling out on the Internet. It was alleged that Pete Wentz had sex with HeyChris's girlfriend, known to fandom as HeyKate. Apparently, Pete also told HeyKate that Chris was the one cheating on her. Chris responded to this situation by posting a lengthy LiveJournal post on his personal journal, askheychris, as well as in other places including the falloutboylove LiveJournal community.[1] The post received hundreds of comments. Chris's posted ended with instructions to "REPOST EVERYWHERE YOU CAN". Pete reposted Chris's post at http://www.fueledbyramen.com/journal/pete.html and then added his response. His response was also reposted by a fan on ONTD.[2] Chris responded once more, indicating that Pete had broken his heart.[3]
According to anindeliblemark, a month later HeyChris was in Los Angeles, posted about "falling for a boy who has a girlfriend", and posted pictures of himself cuddling with Mikey Way.[3] Pete Wentz allegedly then updated his AIM away message to "Fuck everything. And by everything I mean everyone."[3]
Pete/Mikey shippers interpreted this incident as suggestive for Pete/Mikey: "HeyChris's way of 'getting back' at Pete for stealing his girl was to post pictures of himself in bed with Mikey. It seems to suggest that HeyChris viewed Mikey as someone Pete was either with, or had been with at some point."[4] However, the incident also provided material for HeyChris/Mikey/Pete.
The incident was infamous and well documented by fans at the time (unfortunately on LiveJournal, which was subject to severe linkrot). In 2013 the incident was again documented by someone on Tumblr, who copied the text of their posts, but didn't include links. The Tumblr post was later reblogged by Chris, who called the post "75% true".[5]
