Hawkeye is a television series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, focused on the characters of Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, played by Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld. It is based upon the Marvel Comics and is heavily influenced by the Matt Fraction era of the comics.

Canon

The series is a continuation of Clint's story after the events of the MCU films. It introduces us to the character of Kate Bishop for whom Clint becomes a mentor. The series also introduces other comics characters to the MCU, like Clint's dog, Lucky, and Maya Lopez. It also brings in the characters of Yelena Belova from Black Widow, and Kingpin which had been seen in a few of the Marvel Netfilx series.

The series incorporates many elements from the Matt Fraction comics, like Clint being deaf/hard of hearing and requiring hearing aids, the Tracksuit Mafia, the dog Lucky, among other things. However, many changes had to be made from the comics so that Clint would line up with his characterization from the films.

Pairings

The most popular pairing from the series is the femslash pairing of Yelena Belova/Kate Bishop, because of the chemistry of the two characters, who seemed to get along even though they were antagonistic with each other.

Although Clint Barton/Kate Bishop was a common het pairing in the comics fandom, in the TV series fandom it is fairly rare. Most fanworks focused on the Clint and Kate relationship tend to be gen.
