harrypotteranonymous or Harry Potter Anonymous is a Harry Potter mailing list founded in 1999 on ONElist. It later moved to eGroups and ultimately to Yahoo! Groups after the respective sites' mergers.
It was one of only a handful of venues for pre-Goblet of Fire discussion and was a contemporary of the more popular list HPforGrownups.
Message volume peaked in July 2000, coinciding with the release of Goblet of Fire, with 1474 messages posted (up from only 131 in June). There were 249 members of the group as of June 20, 2001.[1] Some notable fans who were members of the group include Gypsy Raven, Penny Linsenmayer, Lori Summers, Catlady, and Steve Vander Ark.
The group has open membership and is unmoderated, and therefore has been overrun with spam since around 2004.
