Happy Death Day is a 2017 black comedy slasher film starring Jessica Rothe as a college student, Theresa "Tree" Gelbman, who is murdered on her birthday and begins reliving the day repeatedly every time she is killed. She sets out to find the killer and stop her death. The sequel added science fiction genre to the film, where the time loop moved onto her boyfriend's friend and is later transferred back to Tree after she gets sent to another dimension.

Like most horror fandoms, Happy Death Day fandom is small with most of the fandom located on Tumblr, YouTube and Archive of Our Own. The most popular pairing in the fandom is Tree Gelbman/Carter Davis, which becomes canon by the end of the first film. Lori Spengler/Danielle Bouseman has also appeared. There have been a few fusions/crossovers with other fandoms including the MCU, Supernatural, and Saw.
Fans of Happy Death Day generally like how the final girl, Tree Gelbman, transforms from a selfish sorority girl into a woman that cares and survives.
