Gendry Is Legitimate is a trope in Game of Thrones fandom, which positions Gendry as the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, rather than one of Robert Baratheon's many bastards. These stories most often have Gendry raised as a prince, although some fans feel this would change his characterization too much, so instead will have Gendry raised as a bastard, or by small folk, and have him finding out about his true heritage when he is older. Many Arya/Gendry fics feature Gendry as a prince in order to get Arya and Gendry together without the problems presented in canon that keep them apart.
