About...
Futuremania-Curtis aka Arne Sitzius is a die-hard Captain Future fan from the outset (when the show first aired in Germany). He grew up with „Star Trek TOS“, „Space:1999“, „Perry Rhodan“ and „Star Wars“, loves old science fiction (especially space opera) and fantasy (LOTR), but most of all talking and writing about his favourite fandom:
„Moreover, Toei’s commitment regarding the production of the CF animé has demonstrated that the series around Future and his companions surely does deserve a place among the „greater“, renowned fandoms such as „Star Wars“: Those who got to know the Japanese version are aware of the fact that – although not being „world literature“ – it is one of the blazing Space Opera epics with high entertainment value, similar to George Lukas’ tales from a „Galaxy Far, Far Away“... Being downplayed as „kids’ stuff“, since „animation“ still is considered (erroneously) by many people as productions targeted at a very young audience, doesn’t do it any justice – neither Hamilton’s colourful, fantastic worlds nor Toei’s elaborate TV show.“[1]
Since there is no such thing as fan clubs or any kind of „organization“ amongst CF fans, he not only wants to drum up for the series but also to draw attention to the fact that „Captain Future“ surely is one of the great space opera epics...
Fan Activity
In 2003, he created Futuremania, a text-laden Captain Future fan site which provides background information and analyses (meta) on the TV series as well as on the resp. pulps. The site (which grew over the years) is still operated and run by him to this day.
