Reactions and Reviews
"From the Mouth of a Predator" by kira-nerys is over fifty pages long. Kirk and Spock are prisoners of the Klingons because they had gone after A'sharon, a renegade Klingon female leader whom even the Klingons don't like. In part one, A'sharon forces Kirk and Spock to have sex for her amusement. She says she will let them go if they perform for her. Part two finds Kirk in sickbay on the Enterprise and Spock is running the ship. Once Kirk is well, he finds out that their orders are still to capture A'sharon. Naturally Spock and Kirk have some difficulties because of what they had been forced to do.They are forced to work with some Klingons, one of whom is A'sharon's sister, to try to capture A'sharon. I absolutely loved the line that A'sharon's sister who is called She'zaron said when she first met Kirk in person, "I thought you would be taller." I like little touches of nice dialogue/detail like that. (And I think we all sometimes forget that Kirk is not your typically tall hero because he comes across with such command and charisma in his personality.) Part three has lots of complications, and A'sharon gets the upper hand. I'm not going to give any specific details from now on. Part four has Kirk managing to foil A'sharon. Part five has everything getting settled, and the men are back on the Enterprise. And there's a really cute little ending.
There is a lot happening in this story and lots of conflict, tension, and emotion. The sex scenes are well written. It's interesting that in this story we have both good and bad Klingons. I'm recommending the story. I certainly enjoyed it. [1]
This was a exciting adventure and an interesting examination of Kirk’s reactions in extreme circumstances. At the beginning he and Spock are the prisoners of a Klingon woman called A’sharon, who is a drug smuggler in the Klingon empire. We are not really told how she came to capture them, but she quickly makes it clear what they have to do to gain their freedom, something which appalls Kirk and Spock for the same reasons, neither wants the other to know their true feelings for the other, something which comes to light when they are presented with A’sharon’s “make love or die” scenario. The rest of the story details with how they manage to escape from A’sharon and how they deal with the fact they both decided they were willing to go through with her demands has serious implications on their relationship. How they struggle to cope with this, while at the same time trying to capture and bring to justice this very dangerous adversary makes an interesting read. This was an amazing roller coaster of a story with a lot of twists and turns along the way before both Kirk and Spock reach an understanding of each other’s true feelings, while dealing with a formidable enemy along the way.
The final confrontation between the Enterprise and the new prototype Klingon ship was well described, as was Kirk’s desperate struggle to defeat this opponent (who will seemingly stop at nothing to get what she wants ) while trying to overcome his own injuries and protect a less than fully functioning Spock makes compelling reading to say the least. There were a lot of very compelling plot twists along the way from a liaison with the Klingons to Spock’s “unexpected illness” and its consequences to betrayal and redemption along the way. My only quibble (and it’s a very small one at that) is that considering how seriously damaged the Enterprise was, it did not seem to have much of a problem rescuing its missing officers at the end, although Scott did offer an explanation of sorts while Kirk was recovering. All in all, an excellent story, and an amazing emotional roller coaster too! [2]
