CONTEX was a standing committee of "Friends of Fandom."

From a 1993 ad in GAZ:

We are a non-profit corporation which promotes and supports science-fiction and fantasy fandom through education and literary endeavors. We can sponsor your convention, run your art show, help your group get in touch with others, sponsor writers and workshops. We have CONTEX, a science-fiction and fantasy convention plus a computer bulletin board ((713)778-0239 a 1200 Baud). We also rent art boards.

Friends of Fandom' is a nonprofit, literary, scientific, and educational 501(c)(3) corporation committed to encouraging and facilitating interest and activities pertaining to science fiction, fantasy, and science fact in its various forms. Its three main goals are to: serve as an information and referral agency; encourage the development of a science fiction literary organization; and discover needs in the area fandom and promote ways to fulfill them. Organizing & running the REVELcon Art Show: from soliciting artists' entries, displaying them for the enjoyment of the members, to selling them.

Other projects they sponsor include: CONTEX, a smallish, intimate, mixed interest con (literary, media, gaming, etc) held on Thanksgiving weekend; FrOF NOTES: a one sheet infoflyer about the fan activities of Houston area (ZIPs 770-778) groups and conventions, published an irregular schedule; 001-Science Fiction BBS, a bulletin board at 713-778-0239; The $2 FUND, Tax deductible donations of $2 (or more) to help support the local activities of Friends of Fandom (local conferences, sf/f publications in libraries, the bulletin board, and many other activities); I.N.F.O.: (Information, News, Facts, Organizations) - Forum for Houston metro area clubs, organizations, and cons to share ideas; keep informed of what each other are planning; and support each other.
