About
From Space Debris #1:
So, what is this Flotilla 13?...
Approximately one year ago, in October of 1988, several B7 fans were sitting in an autograph line at a con (where else would such a ridiculous idea originate?) and decided that it would be a good idea to put together a Blake's 7 literary group. This group, we determined, would be dedicated to the promotion of work in the areas of B7 fiction, art, poetry, filks, etc. We wanted to steer clear of fan politics [1] and just try to stir up some creativity and have a little fun
Well, from that humble beginning, Flotilla 13 sprang into being. The name comes from the episode, Horizon. Thirteen was the number of the flotilla that gave Avon such a chuckle in that episode and forced him to go down and rescue his shipmates.
Our group is very loosely organized -- no officers -- no rules. We meet about once a month, at different locations within 50 or so miles from St. Louis, and put out a newsletter bi-monthly. Our membership is upwards of 20 people with more joining all the time. The only requirement for being a member is that you contribute to the newsletter. Dues amount to stamps for the newsletter. If you are interested in becoming a regular or corresponding member, just send a couple of stamps along with your address to C.K. Smith [address redacted].
To best sum up what Flotilla 13 is all about, following is an acrostic by Bonnie Clendenny:
- [F]riends coming together
- [L]oving Blake and his Seven
- [O]ften laughing and having a good time
- [T]ogether singing and gossiping
- [I]t's wonderful to have friends of the same interest
- [L]like writing and drawing and just having fun
- [L]like eating and drinking and being together
- [A]ll having a great time
- [F]riends are special and great to have
