FKA is, in popslash fandom, an acronym for "Fine Kirkpatrick Ass" and was apparently originally coined by cathybites, aka MI, in the fall of 2001. In February, 2002 Allecto brought an FKA sign to an event in Philadelphia, where Chris saw it; her livejournal post spawned a wave of references. It grew as a meme, a source of jokes, and an inspiration for icons and fiction in popslash livejournal fandom through 2002. There was a long-standing tradition among 'N Sync fans to hold up signs at concerts; among the younger, less slash- and/or ironically-minded fans, these often were inscribed with sentiments like "MARRY ME, JUSTIN", but some popslashers took to holding up signs showing their appreciation for the fine Kirkpatrick ass. As detailed in Allecto's post, Chris Kirkpatrick became aware of the signs and their meaning, and engaged in some stage antics in response.
- FKA, by MI: in the story, fictional fans hold up FKA signs at concerts, something that actual fans later did at real concerts. The meme had grown to such an extent that many people were unaware of its origins. Link to author website, last accessed December, 2008.
- For instance, these lines in a story by Rhys encompass both the widespread fannish appreciation of Chris' ass and the in-joke reference: "The hands on his ass kind of surprised him, but many a person had copped a feel of his fine ass, so adding Lance to the rank wasn’t too hard. If anything, Chris couldn’t blame him. If Chris saw his own ass, he’d want to squeeze, too. It was just that fine." Two Straight Guys In Wisconsin, posted in the spring of 2002.
