original art on the back cover by Suzan Lovett: "Touch." A fan says: "Why you should buy this zine? The back cover. It is absolutely the most beautiful picture I have ever seen. "Touch" by Susan Lovett. I bought this zine, my first ever, at EclectiCon. I knew that most of the stories were on the net, but I wanted a copy of a couple of my favorites that were included in this zine, 'Bid Him Come or Bid Him Go' and 'Quack'. I forked over my money and man, I'm glad I did. I sat down one afternoon and started reading. There is something really comforting to be able to sit with a book in hand, curled on the sofa. So different from reading on a monitor.[1]"

the back cover

Favorite Things is a 320-page, digest size slash Sentinel anthology with fiction by Legion. The interior art is by K9. The color covers are by Suzan Lovett and the front one also appears on the cover of Essential Sentinel 2.

"A collection of the author's personal favorites from the archives of Legion with additional stories written for this volume."

Author's Forward

In 1995, while installing internet access on the computer in the office I where I worked, I typed the word 'slash' into the search engine, just to see what would come up. Frankly, at the time, I was expecting a couple of articles on Kirk/Spock, or maybe some badly done Mary Sue porn. Much to my surprise, (and later, major gratitude), one of the first things that came up was Nicholas's page, Slash Fanficion on the Net, and I happily scrolled through the many fandoms, stopping to browse as mood hit. Part of the pleasure was in the fact that I never see slash in movies or television shows; some one usually has held it up to me, screaming and shouting. And here was a whole page of various fandoms doing just that

One that really surprised me was The Sentinel, a show that I had watched for my own reasons, since its premiere. From the stories listed there I wandered into the SFX Archive, (back when it was small enough that you could actually read the entire contents in a few days of devoted reading), and from there to the list itself, then to senad, and the rest is history. Nearly a hundred of my own posted TS stories later, I'm still going strong. I've enjoyed writing the majority of my stories, but the ones in this zine are my personal favorites, the ones I'm particularly proud to be the author of for a variety of reasons. The very earliest ones would have to be considered AU's because they were done while the show was still filming, and series canon, so to speak, blew them into a new universe. [Twenty-One Days and For The Grace of Blair, specifically.) Lammas Night [2] was meant to be an AU, of course, and K9's art brackets it like beautiful bookcovers. Quack, hopefully could fit into just about anywhere, and was inspired by Suzan Lovett's, Sense and Sensuality. [3] The two new stories were inspired by Suzan Lovett's incredible art as well. And I Want To Thank You, done for Sight was written the weeks after the terrorist attacks on September 11th, and was a much needed relief from the sorrow and shock of that time. I think I've invented a new fic category: Fluff and only Fluff. At least it's short! For Giving Me The Best Day of My Life, done for Touch, was entitled that because I listened to that song by Dido all the time I was working on it. I think you'll be able to see the influence.

To the singer, the artists, the editor who suggested this zine, and all my fans who have kept me writing all these years — my sincerest and deepest thanks. You've made a major difference in my life.

[zine]: Why you should buy this zine? The back cover. It is absolutely the most beautiful picture I have ever seen. "Touch" by Susan Lovett. I bought this zine, my first ever, at Electicon. I knew that most of the stories were on the net, but I wanted a copy of a couple of my favorites that were included in this zine, Bid Him Come or Bid Him Go and Quack. I forked over my money and man, I'm glad I did.

I sat down one afternoon and started reading. There is something really comforting to be able to sit with a book in hand, curled on the sofa. So different from reading on a monitor.

I read was For the Grace of Blair and I was blown away. It is wonderful. I have to be able to "see" and "hear" when I'm reading and I could so picture everything happening that this story depicts.

Well, as if that wasn't enough, I read Twenty One Days, another story that I had not yet read. Hey, I'm a bit slow, what can I say? I am going to admit that in all the TS stories I've read, this is the only one that had me close to tears. Coming from me, that is saying a lot. I don't want to give it away, but Jim's letter is what did it for me. There, enough said.

And if that isn't enough reason, there are three other great stories besides the ones mentioned above. What more could you ask for? I'm happy with the fantastic stories and marvelous art. [5]

[zine]: With seven stories by Legion you can't go wrong! This zine is digest sized... [and] starts off with a forward from the author herself. The reader then moves onto a new story ("And I Want to Thank You") which was written as a relief for 9-11. It's a good story about Blair remembering how he and Jim come to be a couple. I love the images of Blair's glasses on the bed side table. But my enjoyment came from knowing this was a post 9-11 story that never mentioned 9-11. Moving on "For the Grace of Blair" is a wonderful first time story in which Jim and Blair are targeted by a 'partner' killer. The plot is interesting, the sex is wonderful, sweet and loving. The characterization is very well done as is expected from Legion. The next story "Twenty One Days" I was leery about re-reading. I read it when it first appeared on the net and I found it confusing and very odd. This is not your normal Legion fic. So, when I went into this story I honestly didn't expect it to be better. I'm glad to tell you that I was wrong. I don't know if it's because I was able to take my time and read it away from the computer or if slight improvements to the story have been made to ease the story flow. But I enjoyed "Twenty One Days" in this zine. It was thought provoking, it was human and I could see the characters doing this. I loved the thought process and feelings which were under the surface for both Jim and Blair. I'm not sure if this is the same story as the one still on line, but if you are looking for a deep story, I highly recommend this one. "Bid him come or Bid him go" is another story previously on the net. This is a wonderful AU written with a unique ghost story twist. I find when talking about this story I tend to go into way too much detail. So all I will say on it, is if you are looking for a long powerful AU story try this one. "Changeling" is yet another twist on a ghost story/possession thing where Blair is possessed by his future self. When this story says it will not change Jim's future the fact that Blair and Jim know what is going on will change their future - so I found that slightly contradicting. I also found the ending ambiguous at best and wanted more for sure. "For giving me the best day of my life" & "Quack" are both good light stories. Blair's eyes are opened once again by Jim's wisdom an the partners are better for it. Over all I would recommend this zine. There are a few grammar errors and missed words here and there but nothing that would take away from the quality of this zine. Legions writing as usual is solid and satisfying.[6]
