Éowyn/Faramir is a canonical pairing in the Lord of the Rings fandom.

Canon

Éowyn and Faramir are both gravely wounded in battle and meet and fall in love while convalescing in the Houses of Healing in Minas Tirith while awaiting news of the battle in Mordor. Faramir falls for Éowyn quickly and is shown to be insightful and understanding of her emotions and ambitions. Éowyn grapples with her feelings for Aragorn and her yearning for glory as Queen or in battle, but ultimately chooses a life of peace with Faramir. The two eventually marry and settle in Ithilien, of which Faramir is made Prince.

The relationship is cut entirely from the theatrical release of the Return of the King film, aside from Éowyn and Faramir smiling at each other during Aragorn's coronation. The Extended Edition shows some of their romance in the Houses of Healing. Footage of Éowyn and Faramir's wedding was filmed but not included either version.[1]

Fandom

Some fans criticize the ship as simply pairing the spares, while others argue that it represents meaningful character development and growth. Book fans tend to feel more positively about the pairing and Faramir in general, and are less likely to see him as a consolation prize. The release of the film nevertheless inspired a growing number of fanworks.
