Fanfiction Online is a multifandom fanfiction archive started in 2020 that allows anyone to create an account and post their own works.

eqwe32, the developer and site owner, promoted the site on several fanfiction subreddits in September and October. In November Tumblr and twitter fandom discovered the site during a round of AO3 discourse when people were searching for an alternative for hosting their fanfic.

Site Rules

As of November 2020, the site does not appear to have anything labeled a "terms of service", but it does have Rules, Content Guidelines, and FAQ pages.

Content Guidelines:

  • Only fanfictions are allowed. Fanfiction Online does not host non-fanfiction stories.
  • Plagarization is not allowed. Plagarization is intentionally copying another author’s story/part of story and presenting it as your own.
  • A story may not be posted more than once.
  • Sexual content involving characters under the age of 18 is not allowed.
  • Real-Person fiction, or stories about non-fictional characters is not allowed.
  • Stories must actually be stories. Collections, polls, author notes and chats cannot be posted as stories.
  • Stories must be tagged correctly.
  • If you want to add notes to your story, use the dedicated section for Author Notes. You may want to post an update if your notes are not specific to the story.[1]

Criticisms

fanfiction.online was apparently seeded with stories scraped from other websites without permission. Some fans have also criticized the site for not having a terms of service. Other fans who had decided to leave AO3 for allowing underage RPF reported finding underage content on fanfiction.online, despite the site rules against it.
