Fallen Angel is a gen story by Stayka published at Stayka's Saint Seiya Archive. It was written as part of the unfinished series of twelve oneshots "Price of the Cloth", centered on the twelve classic Gold Saints and how they obtained their cloths. Stayka decided to write about her favourite characters first, thus writing the fourth installment about Cancer Deathmask origin first instead of chapter I.
This story is the origin of Angelo as Deathmask's fanon real name. The headcanon spread quickly and is still used to this day. The name is so widespread and ingrained in the fandom among content creators that many people have come to doubt whether or not it is canon information, its origin unknown to new fans.

Author's comment
Well, several people asked me why I named DeathMask "Angelo". Actually I had so many reasons, that I couldn't think of any other fitting name...First there were two songs I played all the time during the time I wrote the stuff about DM: "Angel and Me" from Toyah and "Fallen Angel" from Alphaville -- the latter of course gave this story its name (lots of my stories or chapters are titled for my favourite songs).
Then I like Angelus from Buffy the Vampire Slayer a lot, and somewhat he reminded me of DM. As DM comes from Italy, it was logical that I'd choose an Italian name for him, thus turning Angelus to Angelo.
Well, and of course I just loved the irony to give such an evil guy a name like Angelo :)))
