FRP is an acronym with two meanings, depending on when and where it is more commonly used.

1) Fantasy Role Play, one of the early terms for Tabletop Roleplay, which evolved in the 1960s-1970s from a combination of fantasy cosplaying (such as the Society for Creative Anachronism) and the dice rules of wargaming[1]. Dungeons and Dragons is the best known of these, but the term came into being before DnD's creation.

2) Fail Role Play is a term more often used in video game fandom, meaning "failing to stick to your in-game roleplaying". This can be due to inexperience, or deliberate trolling, and includes taking information from OOC chat and utilising it as IC knowledge. According to the Urban Dictionary, the term was common inside the Half-Life 2 mod, Garry's Mod in the DarkRP gamemode[2], but it is now prevalent in various areas of online roleplay, such as Steam forums, the Roblox public community RISK[3] and public rp servers.
