One Direction Fanfiction Controversy

In the episode "Made You Look", it's revealed that the character Kat is a popular fan writer on Tumblr, writing Larry fanfiction. The show proceeded to show an animated scene from the fanfiction where Harry Styles gives Louis Tomlinson a blowjob backstage. The scene immediately received backlash from the Larry fan community and from some of the wider fandom community, due to the invasion of fannish privacy and the insensitive portrayal of fans.

as a larrie i do NOT support that scene in that tv show. and i will not accept ANY blame for this and i will not tolerate any hate against me or other larries, who are all vastly in agreement, that this was NOT OKAY to put on a fucking tv show[2]

[lukeinterludes]

putting an animated larry sex scene in euphoria, a tv show that will be watched by a lot of people, without changing the names of harry n louis is disrespectful to both of them and is NOT approved by larries. any larrie that finds it entertaining must be gone in the head[3]

If Euphoria really needed a pornographic gay fanfiction sex scene (complete with animations) they could have used some other ship. Like Stucky, or Drarry, or Destiel, or Johnlock, or anything that didn’t have to do with two real-life human beings!! And the fact that Louis and Harry didn’t get asked or even a heads-up about the scene makes me sick.[4]

It was also revealed that a media team working for the show set up a Tumblr account. The team blogged under the alias of thunder-kit-kat, pretending to be a 16 year old girl to interact with young fandom members and learn about the community.[5] The blog was not marked as being affiliated with a production or with social media marketing, and many fans were angry about the apparent catfishing and infiltration of a community of young fans.

Ugh, I really don't have time to deal with this, but the misinformation!! To be clear: a media company set up a Tumblr account posing as a 16-year-old girl and interacted with young women under that guise to pillage their content, thereby putting targets on their backs.[6]

[Lellylou2]

If an ordinary adult set up a fake Tumblr to talk to teens they would rightly be accused of grooming minors. HBO need to take a long look at themselves. Particularly unpleasant and unethical.[7]

Anti-Larry Comments

However, some fans thought Larry fans deserved it, and believed that they brought the representation on themselves. These reactions were related to the controversial nature of RPF shipping in general, as well as Tinhats and the Fourth Wall.

all larries that are mad at euphoria... be mad at yourselves like look at yourself in the mirror and realize you’re the one that got that shit on the air because you’ve fetishized these men for years fucking weirdos YOU did it

since the only thing larries can say is “WE DONT WORK ON THE SHOW WE DIDNT WANT THIS” you talk about this larry shit night and day and have for damn near ten years like. if you let this shit go it wouldn’t even be a topic but you’re in the big year 2019 pushing ur agenda. like.

of course it’s gonna be mentioned on a modern day television show. y’all won’t SHUT UP ABOUT IT. of course it’s an easy example. y’all say larry is real like a million times a fucking day. hold yourselves accountable for the phenomenon YOU created and continue to feed.[8]

Larries gave birth and fed this sick fantasy for years and abused anyone who said against. Now they are suddenly not responsible. But HBO milks what's popular. Every like you gave to l*rry content, every video you made, every manip you shared - all of this made it happen[9]

I see a lot of people criticizing Euphoria’s latest episode because of the Larry situation, saying they “feel bad” for Harry and Louis

Well everyone harassing them, the people they were involved with and making a ship, that should be a fun thing, an obsessive and abusive thing should have thought about Harry and Louis back then

Euphoria portraits toxic things about teenage years…. obsessive Larry shippers were beyond toxic, they disrespected everyone and mostly the 2 guys they supposedly loved…

And unfortunately, the Larry shippers that where respectful and nice end up paying because of the behaviours of others

I know I will probably get some shit for this but, this has been my oppinion for years

Euphoria is really growing to be an amazing show[10]

Louis Tomlinson stated on Twitter that "I can categorically say that I was not contacted nor did I approve it."[11]
