Ethan Winters (Japanese: イーサン・ウィンターズ, Hepburn: Īsan Wintāzu) is the protagonist of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) and its direct sequel, Resident Evil Village (2021), main installments of the Resident Evil video game series.

Ethan is introduced in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. At the beginning of the game, he has traveled to Louisiana after receiving an e-mail from his wife, Mia Winters, who had gone missing three years before. When he arrives at the location that the message indicates and reunites with Mia, he discovers that she's been infected by the Mold.

Resident Evil Village takes place in 2021, four years after the events in Louisiana. Ethan, Mia and their daughter Rose are living in Eastern Europe when they are suddenly attacked by Chris Redfield and his men. Mia is killed and Rose is taken so after regaining consciousness near a remote village, Ethan embarks on a missing to save his daughter from a group of mutated lords of the region.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the first main game in the franchise to use first-person perspective and in doing so, his face is never revealed during gameplay. Additionally his face is obstructed on his character model and is not shown from the perspective of other playable characters like Rose.

Nevertheless, fans have an idea of what he looks like based on his face model and old game assets.
