Reactions and Reviews

1992

For having been little more than a sex scene, this was an amazingly good post-"Balance of Terror" story. And not because it was erotic. This new author did an excellent job of capturing Kirk and Spock's inner thoughts and feelings via her word choice. This was consistently told throughout, and didn't fall into the common trap of making the sex scene a mere description of who was doing what to whom. Just a few of the phrases that struck me as being particularly powerful images: Kirk "couldn't take a drink. Not when he needed one so badly."; Kirk "cinching the tie at the waist as mercilessly as a chastity belt"; Kirk "weaving his fingers more tightly into the thick silkiness of the Vulcan's hair"; "each of Spock's kisses was a ritual purification, every caress a benediction." This was an impressive bit of writing, and a warm and loving first timer. I look forward to reading more from this author. [1]

This was a nice, sexy little story with events taking place after the episode "Balance of Terror". I liked it because, besides being well-written, it showed the true love between our two men. Love that both recognized early in their relationship — love that wouldn't be overcome by Spock's link with T'Pring or anything else. Whatever was to come in their future, they would see it and experience it together. [2]

This is a wonderful "old fashioned" story. Kirk after a difficult mission, a good talk with Spock, a game of chess, a massage against cramped muscles, and finally....inevitably, their lovemaking. I love this kind of story very much, when well written. And this story is very well written! The author plays with words like someone plays an instrument -- the love scenes are like poetry! Really beautiful! [3]

This is a fourteen page story continuing the events of "Balance of Terror." Singer's writing style and vocabulary choices are quite nice. I liked their first kiss being "dry, chaste, tentative."

This first time story moves too fast, too soon for me, though. I think it needs to be two to three times longer. [4]

Well written, good Kirk. Some simply lovely scenes and quite charming Spock. Sweet tension in themassage scene. Deep, loving, erotic. Many very fine, astute phrases. [5]
