Equilibrium, art by Lorraine, based on a scene from chapter 8: Blair twisted against him, one hand pushing at his shoulder, and the next thing Jim knew, he was flat on his back, the younger man straddling his belly. Curly, fragrant hair tumbled around Jim’s face, enveloping him; with a growl, he plunged his hands into that unruly mane, one hand collecting it and holding it against Blair’s nape. The other man gazed down at him with wide, dilated blue eyes, his lips swollen with kisses, his chin raw with beard burn.

Beautiful, Jim thought, and the realization startled him, made heat and pressure collect in his chest.

Summary: "Jim and Blair work on a case - and slowly enter a relationship of a different nature. The inevitable post TS-by-BS epic. Gorgeous title artwork by Nicci."

Reactions and Reviews

I reread everything of hers many times before I even saw an episode. This is the longest I could find online. It’s a plotty, post series, first-time fic that has EVERYTHING – angst, great characterisation, warm wit, a struggling Jim, Blair at the Academy, h/c galore. You fall in, and then emerge blinking and happy about two days later.[1]

Fic URL [2] leads to the index-page where you find an absolutely gorgeous piece of artwork done by Lorraine Brevig for this story. Make sure to click on the picture to get the full version. Yes, it's a slash-picture but not a very explicit one. Long, well written case story that also shows the development of Blair's and Jim's relationship into becoming a couple. Very good characterization of the guys, well done OCs that add to the scenery but do not take over the story. If you look for a slash case story that shows *both*, a thrilling case *and* the guy's relationship, this is the story to read.[3]

Post TSbyBS. A novel-length, plotty case story. Really excellent.[4]

There is a whole subgenre of Sentinel fiction out there that takes place after the series finale, after Blair is offered a detective’s badge. Stories in this subgenre basically go two ways: Blair becomes a cop, or Blair finds some other way to continue to be Jim’s partner. This is one of my favorite Blair-as-cop stories. It’s a lovely, gentle look at the day their relationship finally turned the corner from best friends to lovers. Destina has a great ear for dialogue, too – the banter between them is funny and very true to character.[5]

This is not a laugh-out-loud story; gentle humor imbues the entire day and is so reminiscent of an episode. This was originally posted at 852 under the pseud Destina Fortunato. Enjoy.[6]

Loved this! Beautifully IC, hot, and engaging. I loved the original characters, the plot was well-executed and had just enough twists to keep me guessing until shortly before the end. Hands-down the best Sentinel fic I've read. [7]

Aw. Such a sweet story. What really impressed me was the crime story, though. Way to go to subvert the victims can only be victims trope like this. And Bellini's last actions were so very fitting, though sad-making. [8]

First Sentinel story I've read on A03 and I'm glad I clicked on this one. Really enjoyed it. You have a great talent for picking up the voice of the characters. :) Thanks! [9]

Holy cow, what an enthralling read! I finished last night and haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Your style is great and you had their voices nailed. Great pacing, great little mystery in there. I was super invested in learning who the culprit was and then, wow, absolutely shocked by the reveals. I loved Jim's waffling worry about it all and Blair just... being ready to go for it. Loooooved their romantic moments like whoa. Some of the stuff they said to each other or thought about each other just took my breath away it was so beautiful. The sexy bits were ultra sexy, too, lol. All-in-all, I am so glad I read this one. Thanks for sharing it. :) [10]
