Epithet Erased is an animated web series produced by Brendan Blaber based on Anime Campaign, a tabletop RPG that was streamed on Twitch. The first season aired on VRV, then was also uploaded to Jello's YouTube channel in 2019. The author has also announced that he's planning on continuing the next segments of the story in novel format.

Canon

In the world of Sweet Jazz City a lucky few are born with powers attached to their very souls known as "Epithets". An Epithet stems from a single word that can grant its user any kind of power. Words like "Fire", "Coupon"... or "Soup". A magical artifact known as the "Arsene Amulet" is rumored to be able to steal an epithet from a person, and they say it’s hidden somewhere in the Sweet Jazz Museum... Thieves burst down the doors in the middle of the night! Inscribed warriors do battle in the dark of the abandoned exhibits! Dinosaur bones come toppling to the floor! And a little girl named Molly is trapped in the middle of it all. Will her epithet, "Dumb" be enough to save her? Or will her epithet be... erased?

The first season consists of seven episodes divided into two parts, the Museum Arc and the Western Arc. The name of the seventh episode, All's Well That Ends Well is dedicated to a fanmade animatic of a scene from the original Anime Campaign source material. [1]

Jello has also held a cast reunion panel for Youmacon 2020 [2] on his Twitch channel. The panel consisted of a Q&A and two tabletop reads, one for an Among Us sketch and an exclusive story called Two-loween (aka the Halloween Special). Though the scripts are written by the creator of the series and the characters are played by the original voice actors, the panel reads are not considered canon to the Epithet Erased timeline. On the other hand, the characters interact the way they would in the canonical universe.

Fandom

A considerable part of the Epithet Erased fandom was already a fan of Jello, be it for the original Anime Campaign and Surprise Round TTRPGs or his many other projects. Because He is occasionally answering lore questions and sharing fanworks on his personal blog, the Epithet Erased community is very active on Tumblr, so much so that the series managed to get to position 15 on Tumblr's 2020 Top Web Series, Webcomics & Podcasts list. [3] The fandom interact a lot on Twitter as well, where fans not only talk with each other but also get to interact with the series' voice actors and other production staff members.

Common Tropes & Genres

The official character's sheet template used in the show is available on Jello's Patreon page, and many artists used it to create their own characters. Just like Jello and his friends did in Anime Campaign, many people use random (and often weird) words as their characters' epithets.
