Reactions and Reviews
1995
After STVI, going home to stand down. Beautiful, deep moments of tension, when Kirk is going to Spock's quarters. He must finally make the overture. Will it be accepted or rejected? I like how he felt in his mind that the previous scene in Spock's quarters (which we saw in the movie) was like a rehearsal for what he really wanted to do.Spock says. "Stay." Kirk takes off his clothes and gets in bed with Spock, also naked -- just like that! I loved this, how there was no indication at all to let me know if this is their first time or what. Because of not knowing, it was a wonderful shock when Spock fucks him immediately!
But it feels sad, like they have sex only every once in a while, and this has been going on for some time. And maybe it's always Spock fucking Kirk? This touches my heart. And I can picture it could be like this, that they satisfy certain things in each other, but have never committed to each other. Kirk always leaves after they have sex. But not this time.
This is a valid and meaningful interpretation, that Kirk has never felt he was what Spock needed, always encouraged Spock to keep seeking elsewhere for the completion he needs.
A beautiful epilogue to STVI. Ending with the "I need you" line. So subtle, so realistic almost (as opposed to the eternal love-from-the-first-moment scenario), and finally they will come together, not leave.... Really beautiful, my heart is full. [1]

This is set post STVI whilst the Enterprise is making her way back to Terra. Kirk goes to Spock and offers himself to the Vulcan, as he has apparently done many times in the past. Spock accepts the offer and they have sex. I had been going to say 'made love' but although there is certainly love involved in the 'giving' by Kirk I do not think there is any in the way that Spock takes him. At least not during the first moves although Spock does realise his selfishness and makes amends. I am not even sure that there has ever been any love on Spock's side for this appears to have been a very one-sided relationship. Afterwards when Kirk starts to move preparatory to leaving Spock begins to break the mold by stopping him from going and also asks why Kirk comes to him. Kirk who has thought about this many times over the years gives Spock the best answer he can. Spock who has come to the unpalatable truth that he is a fool for not seeing that he has always had what he needed to make him whole within his grasp manages to stop the 'merry-go-round' by asking Kirk if he has room for one more in his new life. Luckily for him Kirk says yes.Although a complete contrast to the Birthday Two-step this very intense short story gives, for the most part, just as convincing a portrayal of Kirk and Spock as the previous one did. Kirk is rather more self- less than I have ever envisaged him to be but it works and without that characteristic there would not have been a story and we would have missed a lot.
I would like to note here that the rest of the zine is well worth a read. The K/S dictionary, for example, should not be missed. [2]
