Damon/Elijah is the pairing of Elijah Mikaelson and Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries.
Canon
Their canon relationship is rather antagonistic, though they've been portrayed on occassion to work together towards a common goal (usually death/destruction/neutralizing Elijah's brother, Klaus Mikaelson. During season 2, after Elijah made a deal with Elena, he saved Damon on a number of occassions.
In season 3, episode 13, Damon refers to Elijah as his "favorite original" in the following exchange:
Damon: Elijah, my favorite original, back from the dead. Clean up nice.Elijah: You left something in my jacket pocket.
Elijah: I`m here so let's talk
Damon: Oh yeah. ‘Dear Elijah. Let’s get together, plot the destruction of your brother. XO, XO.
Elijah: Damon...
Damon: We are not gonna have a problem are we?
Fandom
Damon/Elijah is a rarepair.
Due to their limited screen time together (and canonical one night stand between Damon and Rebekah in season 3), Damon and Elijah aren't a common pairing. Fans rarely ship them as their OTP. When portrayed in fanworks, they are often working together towards a common goal. In their interactions Elijah is usually portrayed as the more dominant one and their dynamic is rarely that of equals.
Writers sometimes write Damon grieving after Alaric, looking for comfort in Elijah. See also: Damon/Alaric/Elijah.
Damon/Elijah is also sometimes used as a side pairing in Klaus/Stefan fics.
