E-shuushuu is a worksafe imageboard focused on fanart, original art, and cosplay with a focus on cute girls in anime/manga-style. The founder, anonymous_object ("anony" for short), created e-shuushuu as an alternative to 4chan or moeboard:
Though 4chan often has nice images, I don't like the futaba-like boards' user interfaces much and their userbases are often less than appealing. Also, boards of that type allow many different types of images, something I'm not currently interested in. I am fan of moeboard but that board is designed for Korean speakers and I wanted a nice English alternative. I created this board as a combination of the features I like from both 4chan and moeboard.[1]
In August 2012, an Android app for browsing and searching e-shuushuu was released.[2]
In recent years, anonymous_object has less time to spare for e-shuushuu and allows Evangeline Mcdowell to handle admin duties for the site.[3]
The site has a wiki.
Content guidelines
No NSFW content is allowed. This is interpreted broadly and includes things such as prominent "cameltoe", one character grabbing another's breasts, character wearing an apron with nothing underneath, characters in lingerie, nipples showing through clothes, etc.[4][5][6]
Also disallowed is any content judged offensive/non-cute (such as Nazi/fascist imagery, extreme body modification, swear words, illegal drugs, excessively bloody pictures, or anything resembling suicide such as Persona characters with an Evoker guns to their heads).
As the site's purpose is to share pictures of cute girls/beautiful women, any images of a group of characters which are majority male may be disabled or placed under review. Boys who are cross-dressing or "trap" are allowed if it is a character who actually presented that way in their source fandom's canon.[1]
Characters who are entirely furry are not allowed, but humanoid characters with some animal features (e.g. nekomimi/horns/tail) are fine, as are certain types of non-humanoid characters such as mermaids or centaurs.[7]
A team of moderators watch over the site and disable any images that are judged to violate the site rules. In the event of a borderline case, e.g. artistic nudes, the image is placed under review, and is non-visible to normal users while moderators vote anonymously to approve or reject it.
Site culture
E-ChuuChuu is a comic created by and starring various e-shuushuu users. It was begun by Evangeline Mcdwowell and Topzter. The first e-chuuchuu, or "chuu" as the 4koma strips would come to be called, was posted on November 17 2006, and there are now over 500 in the "series". Some are hand-drawn and others are created by cut-and-paste. The strips often involve silly humor and in-jokes.[8]
E-shuushuu also has forums which are heavily used for socializing, including subforums for site-related issues, role-playing threads, gaming discussion, image requests, etc.
