Reactions and Reviews

A fantasy novel. As someone told me when I bought it, "Blair's a elf. Go from there..."[3]

Raonaid's Zine Recommendations

Elves? Dragons? Erogenous pointy ears?!? LOL! I honestly was prepared to ho-hum my way through this one. I have always enjoyed Yvonne's writing, but fantasy is something I'd only do for TS! Hot damn was I wondrously surprised!! I couldn't put it down. This 'zine works for me! If I wasn't laughing I was crying. The angst is great, the love and commitment beautiful, the sex hot! Oh, and this is a first-time, too! And a first time for Blair! McCool paints terrific imagery. Even without being a fantasy fan, I could appreciate the beauty of the dragons and magical atmosphere of the Elven community. And whoa! Blair like you've never seen him! This 'zine just flew by. One thing I particularly enjoyed was the quickness of the scenes. We didn't linger unnecessarily in a situation. The action was almost as fast as the magic bolts thrown at the bad guys! Simon was great in this. I could actually see Simon as a mumblemumble. Ha, you just have to read it! Very wonderful 'zine. It has to be if I'm even looking forward to re-reading a fantasy! This is one I know will be even better the second time around. Just so you can be prepared, we do have rape of major character. But as innocuously, for lack of a better word, written as such a thing can be. Not a lingering torture session.[4]

The cover art is beautiful and the interior b/w art is nicely distributed throughout the zine. I love this fantasy type of story where Blair is really so much more than he leads others to believe. The love story between Jim and Blair is wonderful. There is action, adventure, hurt/comfort, mystery and some betrayal(not J/B). I liked the new characters of friends from Cascade that became involved with the adventure and a new twist to Simon. This story is available on the net at the author's site where I originally read it. I enjoyed it so much I decided to purchase the zine to keep it for rereading and to enjoy the art. Yvonne McCool is a wonderful writer, she has a gifted imagination and describes objects and surroundings in wonderful detail. I get great visual images popping up at her descriptions in all of her work. I would like to see more of her stories in zine form as well. I bet the art work that could be added to her many stories would be phenomenal. She tends to make Blair a strong character, which is a nice change, but he also has some vulnerabilities. Jim tends to have more vulnerabilities than other authors portray. I liked that too. She introduces absolutely believable characters in her AU setting. I loved the furry little critter in the story, Taipai I believe that is a fairly close spelling. There is some humor as well. This is a don't miss story, especially for the AU lovers out there. The zine is well put together, nice binding, good font size and very few typos. Again I read it in one sitting, even the second time around.[5]
