Don't You Remember? is a K/S story by Kathy Stanis.

It was published in the print zine First Time #36.

Summary

"During their trip into Earthʼs past to retrieve the whales, Kirk hopes that a meld between them with restore Spockʼs memories."

Reactions and Reviews

Careful, deliberate and fascinating (cant help it -- the word applies!) exploration of Kirk's desire to mind meld with Spock during STIV. following fal-tor-pan.

Demanding to be read slowly, the language is complex, but the meaning is perfectly clear. Each word appears carefully chosen, each phrase paints a picture. Too many lovely examples to quote, but here's one after the meld and when they went through time: "Familiar proportion in an uncommon perspective returned; they collected themselves into specific beings again." Such a command of the language. [1]

I recently reread this very short story and remembered why I liked it so much the first time. Tightly written, concise scenes take us back to events in ST IV. Kirk and Spock hadn’t become lovers before Spock’s death though they had hovered on the brink. Now Kirk is desperate to have Spock remember how much they meant to each other. Kathy’s trademark lyrical turns of phrase are very evident in this early work, and very worth a reread if you have this zine in your collection. I hope to read a new story by this author very soon.[2]
