Devilman Crybaby is an original net animation by studio Science SARU. It's an adaptation of Go Nagai's Devilman manga, an early dark fantasy shōnen manga which ran from 1972 to 1973. It pushed many boundaries and became very influential -- Neon Genesis Evangelion, UuultraC and X/1999, amongst others, were inspired by the manga.

There was also an 39-episode anime series which aired around the same time. In 2004, there was a live action film. There have also been several spin-off mangas.

The ONA brought many people into the fandom both in Japan and in the west. It's the most popular version of Go Nagai's Devilman in the west.

The fandom's juggernaut pairing is Akira Fudo/Ryo Asuka.
