The Dead Letters Challenge is a Fan Fiction challenge to write an epistolary work from the point of view of a dead character. The character is allowed to write a letter to a single person from beyond the grave.
Origin
In 2000/2001, the challenge was founded by fanfiction writer and archivist Kate Bolin based on The Dead Letter Office.[1] While the challenge was primarily aimed at Buffy the Vampire Slayer, other fandoms participated as well.

The Rules
Quoted from the website:
"take a character.
kill him/her.
let him/her write one last letter. it can be to the world. it can be to a particular person. it can be to no one.
s/he's died, and this is all that remains.[2]
Dead Letter Challenge (2008)
Also known as Dead Letter Variations Challenge.
In 2008, Seperis introduced a new variation of the Dead Letter Challenge.
The Rules
The rules of the 2008 version match the original with the following additions/changes.
- Any fandom, any length, slash, het, gen, other, RPF and FPF welcome.
- There are no limits on how many people can do the same character or same fandom.
- You can do as many letters as you want.
