Cry began life in 1950 as a general SF fanzine titled Cry of the Nameless, initially a clubzine of The Nameless Ones. It shortened its name to Cry in the mid-1950s.

It was edited primarily by G.M. Carr, Wally Weber, Burnett Tosky, F.M. & Elinor Busby for 175 issues up through August 1964. (See Fancyclopedia for more details.) It then went into a 4-year hiatus until it was revived with issue #176 in August 1968 by Wally Weber, Elinor Busby, and Vera Heminger, with a stronger emphasis on Star Trek: TOS. It contained "ST art, articles and arguments." The zine continued publication monthly or bi-monthly through issue #186 in June 1970, with a final "wrap-up" issue #187 in January 1989.

Everyone connected with this bunch have to be knuttz. My postman nearly dies when he delivers it. Like "If a number appears after your name and you are not in prison or the armed forces, you probably have that many issues still coming to you." He is “worried because my copy hasn't any number at all. So am I.

Mike Deckinger has slandered the good name of "SPOCK". He doesn't like him and wants him removed from the show for improvement. Among (HUH?) the shows he listed as "nonsensical items" were "Amok Time," "Journey to Babel" and the first two stories for [season three]. He also states his solution would be "to eliminate SPOCK from the cast. Either have him lost in a shipboard accident or create a situation in which he is inflicted with the Vulcan mating urge and unable to respond in time for treatment. Then give the boot to D.C. Fontana who has written Star Trek's worst stories and knows nothing about sf writing." I feel so sorry for Mike, don't you? I mean his TV obviously has no channel changer or turn off nob. Cry is a great fanzine. The above excerpt does not at all detract from the contents. Complain to Elinor Busby, Vera Heminger, or Wally Weber for this letter but order the fanzine for copy #177.
