Count Olaf is the main antagonist in the book series A Series of Unfortunate Events, as well as the movie and the TV show of the same name. After becoming the guardian of the three Baudelaire orphans, he tries everything to get his hands on their fortune, going as far as to commit murder, but still fails every time.
Canon
Count Olaf was a member of the Voluntary Fire Department until his father was killed by a poisonous dart, which caused him to leave and later be recruited by arsonists. He pretends to be a consultant so he can convince Mr. Poe to put the Baudelaire orphans into his care. As a guardian, he's verbally and physically abusive, and finally tries to marry Violet Baudelaire in order to be able to control her fortune. His plan fails but he evades capture, continuing to follow the Baudelaire orphans to every new guardian they are sent to. At the end of the series, he dies from inhaling medusoid mycelium spores and refusing the cure that is offered to him by the Baudelaires.
Count Olaf is selfish, ruthless and abusive to everyone around him. He's not smart, as he often has trouble with complicated words and tells lies that are easy to see through. He's also a bad actor.
