I have kept all my feedback, something which recent posts in other communities assured me wasn’t that unusual. That enabled me to do a little statistical analysis, relating to my perception of the ideal TS story. The single story for which I have far and away received the most feedback (not counting WIP situations) is ‘Before Sunrise’. (Twenty four, including LJ comments, emails and miscellaneous recs) Which story of mine received nominations in the LMFAs this year? Before Sunrise’. Which other story of mine at least got on to the nominations list? Cloudbusting. Which 2006 story of mine never even appeared on the nominations list, let alone the ballot? Cards on the Table. So by the only objective means of measurement I have, my most popular story is a quiet little case-story romance. Hmmm… [1]

Reactions and Reviews

Five years after Blair gave his press conference and left for obscurity in Maine, and three years after Jim disappeared without a trace, Blair receives a shocking phone call from Steven Ellison. It has him winging back – not to Cascade, but to San Francisco. . .

Mab always writes satisfying stories. These are no different -- Blair and Jim are the familiar men we know from the show -- perfect combinations of strength and flaws. And there's appearances by several minor characters from the show, including a favorite baddie! Enjoy.[2]

A rich, well-developed "what if They know" follow-up to TSbyBS. This, along with its sequels Crossing the Line and Coastal Shelf is my all-time favorite way to see the boys ride off into the sunset together.[3]

Mab's world can be a very scary place. She kills people. She turns them into vampires, haunts them, hurts them, makes them run from the scary stuff hiding in the darkness, and when things go bump in the night it isn't always the boys getting busy. But even if she leaves you standing on the side of a lonely road in the middle of the night with a single pair of headlights bearing down on you through the fog, you will at least take comfort in the fabulous pacing, gorgeous language and intricate plotting.

Cloudbusting is set post-TS by BS (the end of the series for the non-TS fluent) and actually isn't one of her supernatural epics. It is, however, angsty, passionate, fascinating, and contains the single most wrenching transition I've ever read in fan fiction. If you're an angst-junkie like me, you're gonna love this one. Make it hurt, baby.[4]

Author's summary: So, just *why* did Blair use the word 'fraud' of his dissertation? I make them suffer. Again.

Why It's Worth Checking Out: Well written, angsty, let me use the word "heart wrenching" *g*. It's the type of story that satisfies my preference for emotional roller coasters and ends happy enough to not leave me depressed in the end. Not an "and they lived happily ever after"-type of ending, but upbeat enough to see a massive silver line on the horizon.[5]
