Some Excerpts

Well, the show only moved me to make up stories in my head while driving or going to sleep; it was fanfic that caused me to start to write the stories down. The stories in my head were all of the 'shipper variety -- I'm a viewer from the first season, so I had 6 seasons to get really frustrated <g>; the ones I've written down, however, have a little more variety.

LOL!! One thing [I'd change with the show]? Forget it. Here's my list (which is mostly moot at this late stage in the series): (1) continuity; (2) more Profiling!Mulder; (3) less Scully!Torture -- and I don't mean ScullyInJeopardy (that's kind of fun), I mean InfertileScully, CancerScully, and most especially PreviouslyUndiscoveredChildRippedFromHerArms!Scully; (4) more Maggie, Krycek, Skinner and LGM; (5) no more "special guest stars" (I'm among the few who liked Ed and Lily, but that was enough); (6) continuity.

They. Must. Be. Together. I see them as two people who have accumulated more than their share of tragedy and grief, but who have found soul safety in each other. I'm in favor of this being expressed at least partly in the form of the naked pretzel and will be enraged if it happens and we never get to see it. <g>

I think it had to be "12 Degrees of Separation." I became a regular viewer of the XF from the pilot on, but I didn't discover the online fandom until just before the movie came out. I went online to see if there were any spoilers about the film and click, click, link, click -- there was fanfic! I was amazed to discover all the people who thought about M&S being romantic (as if I were the only one who could have had this idea <g>), so I went to some shipper sites and discovering Anne Haynes' fic couldn't have been far behind.

Write. Write for yourself. Read lots of other fic. Get on a list of writers (even if you are "only reading" at first) and participate in discussions and feedback. Buy or borrow tapes of the show and watch the ones that have something to do with what you're reading or writing. Write because you want to. I believe that fanfic can be a wonderful starting place for you to grow as a writer, but if you are serious about writing and get to the point where a lack of feedback or an argument with a fellow fanficcer keeps you from it -- then you need to change your writing path and consider getting your practice somewhere else. I mean, I can recite the dialogue from "Grotesque" by memory, I could probably draw floor plans for every version of Scully's apartment we've ever seen, and I have tiny little acting moments from DD and GA permanently etched on my brain -- but after all, it's only a TV show. <bg>
