Fandom
Christopher Lee was himself a big fan of J.R.R. Tolkien and was the only member of the Lord of the Rings cast to have met Tolkien personally.[1] Fan legend has it that Tolkien gave Christopher Lee his blessing to play Gandalf should LotR ever be made into a movie, but the truth of that is disputed. (See this comment by fan squire on the TheOneRing.net boards.) He also admits to having intentionally taken other roles as wizards in order to prove himself to Peter Jackson when casting LotR.[2]
