Current practice is not to categorize fans by fandom: See Help:Fandom Categories#Which pages should NOT be added to a fandom category? --sparc 20:12, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

From the deletion log, this page was deleted on 24 May 2020, following no objections to Sparc's proposal. It was recreated today with absolutely no discussion on talk page. I think Sparc raised a very valid point about why this page should be deleted. Also here's a link to info on which categories you can add to a fan page. In cases like this editors should remove any red links to deleted categories, rather than recreate the page. I'm proposing deletion again and adding an attention gardeners tag. --Auntags (talk) 11:01, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
Although I didn't intend any disrespect, I'm sorry if that is the case... I can't recall if it was this or IT Artists that I did leave a comment on the Talk Page of the individual who had requested deletion stating that I had not gotten a notification in order *to* be able to request it not be deleted (I have since fixed my notifs, but even still I only watch pages that have been created automatically (in my settings) so when someone proposes something via a new talk page, I have no way of knowing that happened.) - Anyway, I see Elfwreck has added Category: IT to the coding, which I'm so grateful for! I'd like to explain why I think categorizing fans is important, however. A wikipedia should be easy to navigate and locate information. If an IT fan should come along and want to learn more about their fandom, including its creators, they will only see the rare example listed on the actual IT pages. Unable to easily locate each of the many, many artists, writers, etc. that our fandom actually had, which is very expansive indeed. A list of compiled names will make it so much more convenient. Especially for those who may have forgotten something that was important to them, which a list could then spark memories for. - Sorry, I'm not very eloquent so please forgive me if this is difficult to read. But I strongly urge you to consider this. Thank you - Jacksbrak (talk) 09:10, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi Jacksbrak, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get notifications of these edits/deletions. If you go to Preferences on the top right of any Fanlore page in Desktop mode, scroll down to email options and select Email me when a page or a file on my watchlist is changed, you should get email notifications of edits to talk pages, on pages you have edited/created. This may or may not suit your individual situation.
I did check the deleted Category:IT Artists talk page, but there was no comment/objection raised there before that page was deleted. If you find the page where you originally questioned the proposed deletion, please let us know.
The issue with adding fandom subcategories is that many fans are in multiple fandoms over their fannish lifetime and make substantial contributions to all of them. Using a fan I follow as an example, Versaphile has 11 different fandoms listed on her page. Creating subcategories for all of these fandoms would not make the wiki easier to navigate, it'd actually clutter things up. We also cannot make a judgement call on which fandom/fandoms a fan was most active in, or which fandom a fan considers their fandom. A fan could create a work, or more than one work, for a fandom and not consider themselves a member of that fandom. It's very subjective, and we are currently not considering adding fandoms as subcategories for these reasons. This may change in the future, but any change will require Gardeners and probably Committee approval before it is implemented.
There are conversations happening on the Wiki right now about how to make our >3000 fan pages more accessible. See proposal for fan pages here. At the moment editors are discussing adding roles/type of fan activity as a subcategory to fan pages. There are also concerns that many fans perform multiple roles and take part in multiple fan activities. So this is very much a proposal that hasn't been decided on yet, but it might be relevant to your concerns. --Auntags (talk) 11:15, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
