The Best Medicine is a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan story by Russet McMillan.
Summary: Qui-Gon is wounded in a pirate attack, and Obi-Wan must convince him that sex is the best medicine.

It's a gem: long, intelligently written, with imagination and smut and tension that doesn't devolve into an angst-fest. In short, Qui-Gon is injured during a mission and, due to the quantum physics of hyperspace travel, can't access enough of the Force to heal his wounds. Obi-Wan, however, knows a way to generate enough; the question is, will Qui-Gon go along with it? "The Best Medicine" is the first "sex for healing" fic I've run across that actually makes sense. Then there's the fact that it involves one of my absolute favourite slash-sex positions, one I didn't think anyone had written except me, in my own head. Brilliant stuff.[1]
It's easy to overlook The Best Medicine while hunting through the archives, since it's the only TPM story Russet ever completed, and it's buried under Rushlight's oeuvre :). But there was a time when everyone on the list was waiting for the next instalment - for it's a hefty thing, filled with gentle angst, a little hurt/comfort and an awful lot of emotional and sexual tension. I wasn't quite as devoured by it the first time round, perhaps because it is fairly Obi-centric. It's really his coming-of-age story, as we follow a series of flashbacks showing us his growth over the years, interspersed throughout a mission that the adult padawan suddenly has to take over when his master is wounded. Yet, for all its length, it is wonderfully cohesive, some of the flashbacks acting as lovely little adventures in their own right, but also and always as progressions of both the emotional and plot elements of the main arc. Plot-fiends will find a lot to enjoy in here[2]
This long, involved and superbly written story re-energised my faith that fan writers can be creative and imaginitive. The idea of the tale is that Qui-Gon is injured and Obi-Wan helps him heal himself by using sex to increase the flow of the Force. Its sounds strange, but trust me, this is a grand story. Not archived on Master/Apprentice because it makes mention of young people having sex, it does not personally "squick" me, though it does fill me with authorly envy. Fan writers with distinctive styles are rare I think, but Russet MacMillan is definitely one of them. She's apparently taken a break from Sentinel (with her series unfinished! <sob>) and written The Best Medicine, a chronicle of a roundabout route Qui-gon and Obi-wan take to understanding each other. If you needs a silliness chaser after that, can I recommend, Technical Difficulties, by Kathye? It'll expand your mind.[4]

Well, Russet Macmillan has done it again. Read The Best Medicine. It's marvelous -- great h/c, fantastic (and inventive) sex and plot. A nice long read for a rainy spring afternoon.[6]
Underage Fics: Best Medicine by Russet McMillian. I love this story for both the wonderful flashbacks and the equally wonderful *hot* sex. Underage, yes, but not very much so.[7]
