Betty/Veronica is a femslash pairing of Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge from the Archie Comics' series and the related adaptations.
Canon
Archie Comics
Betty and Veronica are shown to be romantic rivals for Archie Andrews' affection in the original Archie Comics. However, despite this the two remain close friends.
Riverdale (TV series)
In the Riverdale TV series, Betty and Veronica quickly become best friends after Veronica moves to town. The pair kissed in the first episode, though only in an attempt to get onto the cheerleading squad.
In the finale of the show, it's revealed that Betty, Veronica, Archie, and Jughead were in a polyamorous relationship with each other, making Betty/Veronica canon.
Fandom
Archie Comics
The pairing has not typically been as popular in Archie Comics, though there have been small collectives of shared fanworks for the pairing. Archie Comics was one of the few series that is banned from fanfiction.net so most fanworks were shared elsewhere, such as LiveJournal. In 2006, Archie Comics was eligible for yuletide and Betty/Veronica received three story fills.[1]
Riverdale (TV series)
Riverdale saw the pairing grow much in popularity. In the lead up to the first episode airing, a leaked section of the first episode showing Betty and Veronica kissing made the rounds. This caused many fans to start shipping the two, and others to speculate if Riverdale intended to subvert the Archie/Betty/Veronica love triangle by having Betty and Veronica date each other instead. After season 1 concluded, the pairing remained popular in the fandom.
