Bellatrix/Voldemort, also known as Bellamort, is the pairing of Bellatrix Lestrange and Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter fandom.

Canon

Bellatrix was one of Voldemort's top Death Eaters and referred to at her death as his "last, best lieutenant." He entrusted her and her husband Rodolphus with one of his Horcruxes (Hufflepuff's cup) and seems slightly more fond of her than his other followers, referring to her by the nickname "Bella."

It is implied several times in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (and outright stated, later, by JKR)[1] that Bellatrix had a romantic interest in Voldemort. There is doubt that Voldemort would be capable of returning her feelings, as it is stated many times in the series that he does not understand love. It was speculated by the fandom that, due to the circumstances of his conception (under a love potion), he was literally unable to feel romantic love, and J.K. Rowling seemed to confirm this.[2]

However, in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it is revealed that Bellatrix and Voldemort had a daughter together shortly before the Battle of Hogwarts: Delphi Riddle. The fannish reception to this piece of information was widely negative. Many considered it out of character that Voldemort would desire an heir at all, since he intended to live forever. Fans were also horrified at the idea of Voldemort having intercourse and pointed out that he would likely have been sterile anyway after all the damage done to his soul.[3]

Fans who do not consider The Cursed Child "canon" also may not consider Bellamort to be canon.[4]

Common Tropes in Fanworks

  • Missing scenes, especially focusing on their reunion after Bellatrix is released from Azkaban.
  • Backstory explaining the conception of Delphi.
