The Bad Buddy Exchange is a fanwork gift exchange for Bad Buddy fandom. It ran for two complete rounds in 2022 and 2023, with schedules set for a third round in 2024.
As an AO3 exchange, it consistently has had a tagset nomination period for signups and assignments; assignments seem to be a mix of AO3 matching and hand matching. In 2022 and 2023, reveals were staggered over several days anonymously. While not having a guessing option, the anonymous period has allowed readers and other writers to discover each other's works, proving valuable in a small fandom. Participants also differed vastly from the 2022 round to the 2023 round.
Gift works are expected to be a 1000-word minimum fic, or a fully rendered fanart or comic fulfilling the recipient's requests. The exchange also features pinch hitters and the option to create treats.
Due to being the fandom's juggernaut ship, the majority of fanworks produced in the exchange are PatPran. However, the exchange has also allowed less common ships to also receive attention from the fandom.
