Athena is a DC Comics character that is based upon the Greek Goddess of the same name.
Canon
First appeared in Wonder Woman #98 (May 1958).
Athena is one of the five deities who created the Amazons. When Hippolyta creates a clay daughter, the Greek goddesses brought her to life; Athena gifted Diana wisdom.
Millennia later, Athena staged a successful coup against her father, with the (reluctant) aid of Wonder Woman, her champion. When the Infinite Crisis began, Athena took the Amazons and the Olympians to a new dimension.
Granny Goodness impersonated Athena during Final Crisis.
