Assassin's Creed: Origins is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is the tenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the successor to 2015's Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. It was released worldwide for Windows, PS4, and Xbox One on October 27, 2017. The game is set in Ancient Egypt near the end of the Ptolemaic period (49–47 BCE) and recounts the secret fictional history of real-world events.
The historical storyline follows a Medjay named Bayek and his wife Aya as they search for answers regarding the murder of their son Khemu. The game is titled "Origins" as it shows the origins of a group called the "Hidden Ones", which would later become the Brotherhood of Assassins. The antagonist group is the Order of the Ancients, which would later develop into the Templar Order.
The modern-day storyline takes place in 2017, with new protagonist Layla Hassan, who is investigating Bayek and Aya's genetic memories using an Animus of her own design. Origins was the first AC title to feature a modern-day protagonist character since Ubisoft ended Desmond Miles' role in the series back in 2012's Assassin's Creed III.
