Alawa is a fan author active in the Lord of the Rings fandom since 2002. She has also written in the Vorkosigan Saga fandom. Her LotR fiction is set in the bookverse and often focuses on the Men and Women of the Dúnedain and the Rohirrim. Aragorn and Bilbo Baggins are among the many canon characters appearing. Her works include poetry, vignettes and chaptered stories. They are known for their sly humour and particularly for their realistic original characters. Thundera Tiger describes Winfrith from "Keepers of the Hearth", as Perhaps one of the most fleshed-out and enjoyable OCs I've ever seen.[1]
Alawa's stories are archived at fanfiction.net, Henneth Annûn Story Archive and Tolkien Fan Fiction. She is a well-known member of the Henneth-Annûn Yahoo group.
Notable Works
- An Elegy for Elfhild -- Stultiloquentia writes: Alawa uses Anglo-Saxon rhythms to capture the rough grace of the Dúnedain and the Rohirrim.[2]
- Keepers of the Hearth—Winner of the Original character category in the Mithril Awards 2004. Our sympathies are always with the Éowyn-characters, caged in womanly domesticity when they long for adventure and high romance. But here, for once, we see the other side: the home-makers, the hearth-mothers for whom the house is not a cage but a shrine, and who know that "hope remains while women endure." (Mithril Awards judge)[3] Dwimordene writes: The entire story is a breath of fresh air that is lively, thoughtful, utterly humane and believable.[1]
- Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit—Winner of the Men category in the Mithril Awards 2005. Dwimordene writes: What is the meaning of tradition if it is not given practical expression? This is the heart of the story—it's the battle of idealism versus realism, hope versus necessity. ... Beautiful writing, wonderful insight, without a wasted word.[4]
- One Day—Winner of the Comic or light poetry category in the Mithril Awards 2004. A charmer for the procrastinator in all writers. (Mithril Awards judge)[3]
