Ren Amamiya, also known as Akira Kurusu and Joker, is the Protagonist of Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal, as well as a playable character in several of its spinoff games, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Canon
Arrogant and a bit dorky, Ren is seen as more of a fleshed out character than his predecessors, Yu Narukami and Minato Arisato. As a near mute protagonist, he was never going to have a huge wealth of personality, but idle animations such as playing with his hair and tapping his fingers together go a long way where words can’t.

Shipping
The fanon M/M ship with his rival Goro Akechi has the most fanfiction out of all ships for the fandom on Archive of our Own. In canon, Ren can enter romantic relationships with almost all of the game's female characters. Crossover pairings with characters from other Persona games are feasible due to the semi-canon crossover Persona Q games. The spinoff game Persona 5 Tactica included an optional wedding scene in a daydream where the player can choose which character will marry Ren, including the male characters Ryuji Sakamoto and Yusuke Kitagawa that are not available as romance options in the original game, causing an influx of fanart of the characters getting married.
