Reactions and Reviews
This is a sequel to BRIGHTLY AS A KING, and I really didn't see the necessity of it. It takes place almost entirely in the "mirror" universe. Essentially, the story is a "rape Kirk" story. The obnoxious "mirror" Kirk gets his, after mocking his bondmate and putting him through the agonizer. I couldn't emphasize with either character; they both are quite cruel. I don't really like stories where Spock rapes Kirk (or vice versa) unless there is some compelling plot complication. I didn't find such a complication here, and it seemed simply another excuse for a high-handed Kirk to be punished by having his partner sexually humiliate him. [1]
