9-1-1: Lone Star is a procedural drama TV series focusing on the fire, police, and ambulance departments in the fictional 126 based in Austin, Texas. It is a spin-off series of 9-1-1 and there have been crossover episodes between the two shows.
Canon
After a tragic accident leaves only one survivor from the 126, Captain Owen Strand is brought in from New York to rebuild the firehouse and team. Early seasons focus on Strand putting together his team of firefighters, adjusting to live in Austin, and dealing with his recent diagnosis of lung cancer. Later seasons see the team more settled, though facing repeated challenges as various accidents and disasters befall Austin.
Like 9-1-1, as the series goes on, some of the accidents, disasters, and story-lines become increasingly outlandish, bizarre, or borderline ridiculous; which can be intermingled in the same episode with very serious story-lines. Much like with the main series, much of the audience seem to just accept the premise.
Contract negotiation issues and cancellation discussions
When the show was renewed for a fourth season, issues began to arise in the contract re-negotiation discussions with the cast, ending with the studio closing down negotiations and pushing them back to the end of season four. When season four ended and a fifth season renewal was confirmed, the studio again declined to enter into negotiations and suggested that season five would be the final season[1]. A since deleted tweet by guest star, Robyn Lively, referenced their excitement at being "part of @911lonestar’s final season", seemed to confirm this news. There were also reports that Sierra McClain — who plays one of the main characters, Grace Ryder — had left the show, leading to uncertainty over how much, if any, of season five she would appear in[2].
Fandom
9-1-1: Lone Star was very popular with television audiences in its first year, landing high on the viewing and rating charts[3] and was widely discussed on Twitter, Reddit, and Tumblr from its first season. Some viewers found some of the story-lines too outlandish and felt the balance that 9-1-1 managed between over-the-top events and serious stories was not as well reflected in 9-1-1: Lone Star. Additionally, some viewers were quick to voice opposition to or make bigoted comments about the diverse cast in the show.

I didn’t think it was possible to think or say this about anything related to the original 911 show, but wtf how ridiculous are the writers of this show and wtf are they thinking with these calls and character profiles? This seems like a spoof more than a spinoff, and I never thought I’d have to decide to stop watching Rob Lowe because the writing was so bad...

I watch too many dramas. I need something light and hilarious so I am not going to stop with this show. I’m not considering it a drama. It’s supposed to be funny, right?

I’m not judging it as great cinema. I don’t consider the original particularly dramatic, I just also don’t consider this too funny. The other one has ridiculous not-even-once-in-a-lifetime calls that still seem realistic compared to the story telling in this one. One station responds to an earthquake, tsunami, overturned truck leading to a shark attack all in a couple weeks, ok, not realistic but suspension of disbelief is a thing. Dozens of people have no idea that there were spoonfuls of mercury in the middle of sandwiches?!?!? Gtfo, that isn’t suspension of disbelief, that’s calling viewers morons straight to their faces. Scrubs was a funny medical drama. 911 Lonestar seems like an SNL sketch making fun of a real show.
In fannish spaces like Archive of Our Own, the show has not reached the level of popularity of the original series, but continues to grow as a fandom. As of December 2023, the fandom had 9,076 fanworks. Most fanworks focusing on achillean pairings, with 7,696 of AO3's works being tagged M/M and the majority of FanFiction.Net's small selection of works being M/M. Of this, most of the fanworks are about the canonical pairing of Carlos Reyes and TK Strand, also known as Tarlos. This pairing is also the main focus on Tumblr and in short fanvids made on TikTok. F/M is reasonably popular as are platonic pairings, F/F works are rare within the fandom and a notable number of the F/F works are tagged as such for the presence of Henrietta Wilson/Karen Wilson, again from the original 9-1-1.
Due to the large number of crossovers with the original 9-1-1, the second most popular romantic pairing in the tag on AO3 is 9-1-1's juggernaut ship, Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz.
Pairings
Achillean (M/M) Pairings
Duaric (F/M) Pairings
Platonic Pairings
Sapphic (F/F) Pairings
Poly ships are also reasonably common in the fandom, with various combinations of the characters.
