Reactions and Reviews
'The 23rd Year: The Eulogy' by Patricia Laurie Stephens takes Kirk and Spock home to Iowa and to the unhappy duty of a son having to face the loss of a parent. Kirk is forced to confront death and the more he confronts it, the more he fights against it, the harder it hits back. This is a two hanky story! [1]
I thought this was the best story in the zine. It brought forward some important issues -- such as the meaning and usefulness of heroism in sports, and whether heroic role models are constructive or destructive. Peter Kirk's girlfriend, 8uzy O'Connell, was a very memorable character. I am especially fond of seeing strong women like her in fiction. [2]
