Reactions and Reviews
1993
I don't think I've seen a mirror universe shoreleave story before, so this is original. It is consistent with those characters, but I had a little trouble with Spock being able to cause Kirk's swimming accident if the planet was rigged so no harm could be done. Other than that, it was an enjoyable read. [1]
The Empire Kirk and Spock both beam down to the 'Shore Leave- planet and have replicas of each other created for themselves. Very good tension and witty rapport between them. Nice build up of mystery as to who is a replica and who isn't.
The cleverest part: "King went on the offensive. 'Disobeyed you? You seem to be forgetting who's the captain here, mister.' Spock made an exaggerated maneuver as if searching Kirk's body with his eyes. 'I see nothing on you to denote rank." The Vulcan advanced. 'Although it is true I have not searched everywhere... yet."
Plus the sexiest line: Taste yourself.' Spock whispered softly." You can imagine! And a very clever, unexpected ending. [2]
