Winston is a playable character from Overwatch, a first-person shooter game by Blizzard Entertainment.
Canon
Winston is the result of experimentation on primates that occurred on the Moon.[1] He was part of a group of primates that lived on the Moon amongst human scientists, including Winston's dear friend Dr. Harold Winston. The other Gorillas wanted control of the Moon base however, and attacked the humans. Winston escaped down to Earth.
On Earth, he joined Overwatch and worked alongside Gabriel Reyes, Jack Morrison and Ana Amari during the Omnic crisis.[2] After the forced disbanding of Overwatch it is implied that he hid out in Watchpoint Gibraltar with Athena.
Fandom
Winston is not a popular choice for fan content. This is likely because he is a Gorilla, and there are next to no shipping possibilities. Most fanart centred around him illustrates him in battle, especially using his 'primal rage' ultimate.[3] Another popular choice for fanart is skin designs, wherein fan artists design costumes like the ones used in-game.[4]
Shipping
Winston is not commonly shipped with anyone, due to being a sentient gorilla. There is an ironic ship of him with Lena Oxton, a canonically lesbian character. There is also a crack ship of him with Hammond, a sentient hamster.
