Willing is a Jack/Daniel story by Salieri.
Reactions and Reviews
An absolutely gorgeous story, wherein Salieri has a new take on an old enemy. I can't really say enough good things about this story. She absolutely nails the characterization of every member of the team (especially Jack), she weaves in themes of alienation and identification of self, the scenes of feelings being awakened are extremely subtle, and she writes like a dream. What's not to love? Highly recommended.[1]
a nice little story that'd make a good episode. i even give her credit for making the pov a little confusing. stick with it for a few paragraphs and you'll see. no extreme sweetness, the slash all implicit (though a bit more, uh, there than in an actual ep)--but some very poignant moments.[2]
The basic plot in 'Willing' is based upon one of the many common themes in SG-1 Off-world fics, however this particular story is anything *but* common. It's a possession story with a unique twist, and while I am not personally partial to reading about goa'uld possession, I have read and reread this one numerous times over the years. Salieri comes at the topic from somewhere far-left of centre, and that fascinating approach combines with the stark setting, choice of pov and mood, superb characterisations, and a lot of just plain old superlative writing to make this story a work of art.[3]
