Who Else? is a gen Doctor Who 34-page anthology. The front cover is by Gennie Summers, the back cover by Alesandra E. Kelley, and the subtitle of the zine is "The Fanzine of Doctor Who and Cross Overs."

A note from the editor about some proposed art: "This zine's layout was rushed out on early mac's as I was getting ready to transfer colleges, and there originally was more artwork for the "All Creatures Great and Small" crossover but it was "stuck" in the envelope and not discovered until a few months after printing." [1]

From the editorial:

The reason this zine is called "Who Else" is that it is a Doctor Who and cross-overs zine. All the stories in this issue pertain to Doctor Who, not all of them are cross-overs. A second issue is planned for sometime in the spring of 87...

Also from the editorial, information about another zine, typos included:

First, thank you for purchasing this 'zine. I was lucky to have the access to a laser printer and pass on my good fortune to you, the fan. If you have seen my earlier endevour, Fantom Alterations #1. be yourself relieved. Everything in this zine should be clear enough to read, tyoes an spelling errors 9except in this editorial) have been minamized, and you still have the benefit of a reduced column zine, though not as reduced this time.

  • Forever and a Day, editorial (2)

Reactions and Reviews

At first casual glance, WHO ELSE? looks pretty snappy with its typeset double columned pages. Unfortunately, on closer inspection the crooked bits of laid-out text appear, numerous typos surface, and handwritten corrections/additions, evidence of apparent carelessness, really drag down the quality of the zine format.

Contents range from so-so to silly to well done. Among the lesser entries is something purported to be an article on The Web of Time, which is muddled and never makes a point. "The Practice Jaunt" is a disappointing tale that serves as nothing more than a lengthy introduction to the cast and powers of The Tomorrow People, with the Doctor and Sarah being incidental. "The Zombie Master" is the only piece of reduced text in the zine, shrunk so small as to be difficult to read. On top of that frustration, the story is hardly worth the effort, as it's a muddled UNIT story, a combination of slapstick and poorly conceived 'horror' with no real reason to the plot. Not even an appearance by the Doctor could save it.

The zine does have some bright spots which more than makes up for the unpolished entries.

Each filk and poem is a gem, and the artwork is several notches above the norm with a splendid portrait of Doctor #2 gracing the backcover. The two longest and best stories presented here are well worth the price of the zine. "Dr. Who and the Daleks' Dastardly Deeds" is a witty, tongue-in-cheek romp with a wonderful supporting cast, and even a pacifist Dalek!

"Doctor, Doctor" is the real showpiece of the issue, taking a common enough premise of mistaken identity, but handling it with so much charm, mystery, and warmth, that I couldn't help being caught up in it. The author also managed to make Tegan something more than simply a 'mouth with legs.' Thoroughly enjoyable with some nice little spot portraits, courtesy of M.L. Johnson. [2]

I've got a copy of WHO ELSE? and I was also disappointed with the technical things wrong with the zine. One thing that really bothered rae was the obvious spelling errors that should have never gone to the printer, much less be printed. If one is going to the trouble of using high-quality printing, the contents should be literate and worth printing. Had care been taken, it would have been a better zine. I couldn't read the reduced text, either. I wish the whole zine would have been uniform, in type style and quality. We could always use another quality Whozine. [3]
